Avedon later commented that, when the shoot was coming to an end, Marilyn sat in a corner “like a child, with everything gone” and said no when she saw him come closer with the camera. This was the final frame of the day, which Marilyn reluctantly agreed to. It is clear that the Marilyn façade had come down, this was Norma Jeane, stripped down to just herself - without glamour or posing she was just that, just Norma Jeane.
